When you have no one to help you, seek help from the stars. And why not when you can find them on the ground? That is exactly what the textile ministry has in plans for the future to save one of its most famed product; the Tant from it’s ramshackle existence. The stars are of course not from the heaven above but from the glamorous Indian film industries. Not only the movie stars but also other celebs shall act as the brand ambassador for Tant and its associated line of products.
If sources are to believed the Indian textile ministry hit upon the idea when Timothy J Roemer visiting India earlier this month was fascinated at the sight of the Banarasi silk and Tant. It is to be noted that the Banarasi silk got its GI (Geographical Indication ) in the last year itself. Spekaing on the same note was Human Welfare Association (HWA) Rajini Kant who told the media:” We suggested to the development commissioner (handicraft) to adopt appropriate measures for the popularity of the handloom silk products of Banaras so that the handloom weavers can get benefits of the GI certification,”.
There’s no denying that Banarasi silk and Tant can only be retrieved if a well planned strategy is followed and maintained .The idea of celebs turning ambassadors for one of the most sought after products of Indian handloom industry is a grand one and if all goes well the Banarasi Silk and Tant might see a revival in the upcoming days .
